Hello
Welcome to The Armstrong House! My name is Janea Adkins, and as the Executive Director, I bring over 22 years of experience in education, mental health, child welfare and leadership. My mission is to enhance connection and support for families, helping to break the cycles of abuse and neglect. I am dedicated to training and educating youth to ensure they have the tools and support they need to thrive.

The Armstrong House is committed to empowering youth in Rutherford County, NC. By increasing awareness of available resources, we aim to strengthen support systems for families. Our goal is to decrease the number of youth in foster care by fostering trusting relationships and providing a safe space for them to seek assistance.

The Armstrong House, named after my father, John "Jack" Rea Armstrong Jr., taught me the importance of showing up, being present and listening without judgment. Whatever you do, work at it with your whole heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. - Colossians 3:23

Our mission is dedicated to guiding and supporting youth ages 14-21 by connecting them with resources and adult advocates. Using the John H. Chafee Foster Care Program for Successful Transition to Adulthood Model, we serve all youth in need, regardless of child welfare involvement. Our advocates will provide additional support to LINKS eligible youth with foster care experience, fostering a safe peer community for all. Our goal is to educate and empower young people on their rights and responsibilities, helping them access available resources and build essential life skills for adulthood. Through this support, The Armstrong House envisions breaking cycles of child welfare involvement and generational trauma, creating a stronger future for each youth we serve. Here, you will find a wealth of services aimed at helping you thrive as a successful individual. Connect with adult mentors who are ready to assist you as you navigate your community. Take the first step towards your future today!
